In Elizabethan Times it was a time of peace in England. This would cause the Prince in the tragedy of Romeo and Juliet to not want a feud between two families disrupting the peace. Even though the tragedy does not take place in England the author did live in England. Dueling was illegal during Elizabethan Times in England and to duel people would go outside o England. Although some people didn't duel or fight fair and would sometimes ambush the people they were feuding with. Also during this time a vendetta was a feud between two families where the victims family members would fight back on the behalf of their death.
Now a days feuds aren't as common. However, the United States does have a history of feuds. They were sometimes started two conflicting persons and then it expanded into involving whole families. Some feuds were started over politics like the feud between Aaron Burr and Alexander Hamilton. Most feuds in the United States' history happened in the Old West. These feuds often involved dueling. Now 'dueling' does not happen due to laws protecting citizens but people still act out in a violent fashion somewhat like the ambushes that would happen in Elizabethan times. Feuds and duels are commonly seen in modern day in movies and television shows, for example the many duel scenes in Harry Potter.
