Parties:
Today parties are very different than back in the Elizabethan Era. We are comparing a type of party 13-17 year olds would go to today, and what type of party 13-17 year olds would go to in the Elizabethan Era. Everything from music, what people wore, and types of dancing has changed. Today parties consist of loud popular music, people dancing in a dark room; usually with strobe lights. In the Elizabethan Era, people would dance in a well-lit ballroom. Back then, men would wear suits and women would wear long ball gowns. Romeo and Juliet met at a masque ball in the play, Romeo and Juliet. Unlike today at most parties men and women both wear casual clothes, but it also depends on the type of party they are attending. Music has also changed drastically. In the 1600s the music was mostly characterized by counterpoint, which is a technique that,"combines melodic lines and creates a harmonic relationship". The music was usually played by minstrels, which were traveling musicians. Today most parties a DJ will pick a range of popular songs for the crowd. In the Elizabethan Era, popular dances were the Paval and the Volt. Today, we don’t really have a specific dance for a song, and usually just make up our own dances.
